The Zika virus has been in the news recently. Did you know the primary carrier of Zika virus, the Aedes aegypti mosquito, primarily breeds in water-holding containers around homes and businesses? These mosquitos especially love to breed in tires, flower pots, clogged rain gutters, buckets, and tarps. Do your part by eliminating the breeding sites by dumping them out, turning them over, or flushing them weekly. Your chances of being bitten by an Aedes aegypti mosquito will be greatly reduced. In the meantime, Mosquito Control is working to stay on top of any new Zika developments and will respond accordingly if the virus is detected in Charlotte County. Use mosquito repellents in accordance with the label. Let’s all do our part to keep Charlotte County free from mosquito-borne diseases such as Zika.
